Welcome to Drums for All!
My father was a drummer. I grew up with drums and other musical instruments as part of my childhood experience. So perhaps I should not have been surprised when, as an adult, drums called to me. Rhythm and hand drumming provide exercises for my brain and body that energize me in a way that few other things do.
After a few years of serious focus on drumming, I discovered that I could use my love of drumming to communicate with everyone, and to help everyone be more expressive. At that point I knew that bringing people meaningful communication--through rhythm and drumming--is what I wanted to do with my life.
It took me a few years to realize that the way I was teaching was not open to everyone. In addition, I realized that the way I was teaching even caused anxiety and pain for a few of my students. Since that moment, I’ve worked to find ways to play music with everyone who wants to play, regardless of any physical, social, or cognitive limitations.
After 10 years of teaching I realized that I work with the best experts in the field of adaptive communication every day: my students, clients, and their parents.
Drums for All! Is the product of the conversations and collaborations I’ve had with the people in my life who live with disabilities of all different types. I’m incredibly grateful to them for making music with me and teaching me how to communicate better with them.
